A Brief History

Since March of 2007, Triple Crown Sports has been working to bring a Women's National Basketball Association expansion team to Colorado.

The group said it had agreed with the WNBA to meet financial criteria for their Colorado Chill by 09/15/2007 but couldn't raise enough money.

"In summary, we are not financially qualified to own an expansion team at this time; and that should we become qualified through partnering or growth of our core business, we would still be very interested in the WNBA," Triple Crown Sports announced.

Triple Crown Sports owner Dave King says his group has about 40 percent of what it needed. "We didn't come up with the operating capital of $5 million to $7 million to do it."

King operated the original Colorado Chill franchise in the now-defunct National Women's Basketball League for three years ending in 2006.
